Ways to Learn Portuguese with Tutorcom:

 

Lessons take place at your home or office (or other venue chosen by you) and can take place any time between 8am and 9pm (Monday to Fridays) or at weekends (flexible times). Our recommendation is for 1.5-hour lessons but lessons can be 1 hour or longer.

Costs:
One-to-One Tuition: £40 per hour
Small Group Tuition: £50 per hour

A Few Facts…Portuguese

 

  • Spoken by about 240 million people in Portugal and Brazil as well as in some African countries such as Angola and Mozambique.
  • Spoken by 10.6 million people in Portugal.
  • The Community of Portuguese Language Countries (CPLP) represents more than 223 million people; it is an intergovernmental organisation for friendship among nations where
  • Portuguese is an official language.
  • Portuguese has two main groups of dialects, those of Brazil and those of the “Old World” (Portugal).
  • Most of the lexicon of Portuguese is derived from Latin with loanwords that came from the Moorish occupation (about 800 words), Portugal’s maritime expeditions to Asia and South America.
  • Portuguese and Spanish share a great number of words that are either spelled identically (or almost) but are pronounced quite differently.
  • The closest language to Portuguese is Galician, spoken in the autonomous community of Galicia (north-western Spain) and the core vocabulary and grammar, of Galician, are still noticeably closer to Portuguese than to Spanish.
